Future Of Java
Java is also a programming language that was first introduced by Sun Microsystems in 1995. There are many applications and websites that do not work without installing Java on the system. It is an object-oriented and class-based programming language, with a Write Once, Run Anywhere (WORA) approach meaning that the software only needs to be compiled once. What is Java and how does programming work in this language?
What is Java?
This programming language is based on a uniform way of programming Java, without the need for recompilation per system. A regular criticism is that Java performs slower than other programming languages that are specifically developed for a system. Mobile systems such as Android and iOS do not support Java by default, but it is possible to use this programming language in apps and/or web apps. The syntax is similar to C and C++, with fewer low-level capabilities than these programming languages.
In the seventeenth century, Dutch merchant ships introduced coffee to Southeast Asian countries such as Bali, Sumatra and Java. Thus, the island has become synonymous with coffee. This is also the origin of the programming language, which was previously called 'Oak' and later 'Green'. Java programming is based on five basic principles:
It should be simple, recognizable and object-oriented.
It had to be robust and safe.
It must be architecture neutral and transferable.
It must perform optimally.
It must be interpreted and dynamically based on threads.
The first version of JDK was released in January 1996, Java SE 13 dates from September 2019. The Java Runtime Environment consists of the Virtual Machine, the Core Classes and Platform Libraries. With the Plugin it is possible to run applications within a browser window. Most technologies today are covered by a GNU General Public License that allows them to be implemented at no cost.
Java is a complete and powerful programming language that can be used in many ways. It is available in 3 editions:
1) Java Standard Edition (Java SE) to develop applications. The applications can be run on their own (standalone)
2) Java Enterprise Edition (Java EE) to create server applications such as Java Servlets, Java Server Pages (JSP)
3) Java Micro edition (Java ME) to create applications on mobile devices such as smartphones.
What is important of Java and Java skills?
Before I go into detail about how to screen Java skills, let me share with you some basics that will enable you to become more familiar with this technology.
First, the Java world changes often, so experience with frameworks gained 5 years ago is no longer valid. Keep this in mind when assessing the skills of Java developers based on their work to date.
Second, in the Java environment, knowledge of tools and libraries is more valuable than knowledge of the language itself. Without it, a programmer will write everything himself from scratch and just waste time. If a developer is familiar with Java libraries and frameworks, he can use them as Lego to create what he needs and only write code where it is needed. Doing it this way makes their job much more efficient.
Last but not least, only commercial experience is important. Java knowledge from a university is almost never useful for business coding. So unless you're recruiting for an entry-level or junior position, you can skip Java skills assessment based on college education and degree only. In that case, it is more important that the candidate performs coding projects in real life. It doesn't have to be a commercial project - it can also be a hobby or an open source programming project.
